About Philip Gelderblom
Philip has written widely across a range of current technologies and how they affect societies, the economies in which they live, and the lives of people using this tech. He has a particular interest in delving into complex technology and presenting his findings in an accessible manner.
His first job in journalism was with a major Sunday paper, where he covered everything from politics to salacious celeb gossip. He moved to a magazine publisher, where his work got him involved in motor racing and adventure tourism.
In a previous life, Philip worked with engineers and manufacturers to develop and make interactive point-of-sale items for petroleum products and certain liquor brands.

When did your interest in technology begin?
For me, technology is a broad area of interest. I have always wanted to know how things work and understand where current technology comes from and where it is going. Consumer electronics fascinate me, not only because of what they can do and how fast they are, but also in the ways they affect the behavior of individuals and society at large.
I recently had to delve into cyber security, and became interested in AI, and how this technology could help or harm society.
What was your first phone?
My first phone waa a Nokia 8210, at that time the smallest phone in the world. You could phone and message on it, but nothing else. The battery lasted about two weeks. A later memeory was playing Angry Birds on a BlackBerry, which was no way to live.
What tech products or categories are you most passionate about?
Although my interst in tech is quite broad, I am tracking the integration of technology into cars. Not only the infotaiment components fo this, but also the driver assist technologies and related developments.
